A group of Year 10 students recently returned from a wonderful and extremely rewarding three days away at the Barambah Environment Education Centre. The trip also included a visit to the Cherbourg Ration Shed, which is a cultural and historic Aboriginal centre.
The students built some strong bonds as a team, while communicating a strong appreciation of culture, spirituality, history and leadership.
Some of the most favoured activities amongst the group were:
- shelter building
- star gazing and astronomy
- learning about culture
- sitting around the campfire
- mindfulness
The immersion has been a remarkable experience for the attending students, and they take with them a deeper understanding and appreciation of local Aboriginal perspectives.
"This camp was extremely enlightening for the Year 10 Leadership Group. Learning about the Aboriginal community and their traditional culture was an incredible experience and I feel so blessed to have been a part of this opportunity.” – Ripley
"Once in a lifetime opportunity. It was a wonderful experience to be educated on the diverse culture and environment surrounding us. I feel we are more connected as a leadership group.” – Maegan
