Garanyali Garden Opening

Thursday 5 October saw the official Opening & Blessing of the Garanyali Garden at the Southern Cross Catholic College Secondary Campus.

Uncle Goma told the story and meaning behind the mural, and together with Uncle Robert, opened the event with a Welcome to Country Smoking Ceremony.

The Garanyali garden represents Southern Cross Catholic College's commitment to understanding & embracing the rich tapestry of cultures & histories, of the Traditional Custodians - the Gubbi Gubbi Peoples.

This new space includes a Prayer area, yarning circle, bushtucker garden & a story pole that represents each of the four College houses.

Students of all ages will be able to experience faith & culture in a whole new light here, as they can share their stories together
Congratulations to everyone involved in the fruition of this project – your unwavering commitment has certainly paid off!

Let this garden be a place where knowledge blooms, understanding grows, & unity thrives.

Thank you to special guests who attended the Opening & Blessing:
  • Executive Director of Brisbane Catholic Education, Dr Sally Towns
  • Member for Petrie, Hon. Luke Howarth MP
  • Br Rick Gaffney, Former Garanyali Coordinator
